Find a little
slice of ltaly at Nino’s
On
a sunny day looking out on to the tree lined courtyard in front of
Nino's Restaurant, one could be forgiven for mistaking Reading's Market Place for a
little slice of Italy. Nino's Restaurant has
been serving original Italian fare here since 1980 when it was founded
by Nino Bartolomei himself.
Originally
from Salerno, Italy, Nino has created an
enviable reputation in Reading as a restaurateur and
business entrepreneur. Nino's experience in the restaurant trade
stretches way back to the mid sixties when he was first employed as a
washer-upper! He progressed through head
waiter, Chef and restaurant manager before committing his life to the
creation of his first restaurant in Reading, Nino’s in the Market
Place.
Expansion soon followed. Many will remember Nino's 2 in Church Street, Caversham, which
provided a select menu and intimate ambience. Bookings were essential
to guarantee a table and the service was sublime. Then there was Nino's
wine bar, a popular venue based in Duke St, which reigned supreme
for many years. Again there was a dining area, live music and a willing
atmosphere. However, as Nino himself said, everything has a price, and
both the wine bar and restaurant have now changed hands leaving Nino to
concentrate on the original Nino’s Ristorante Pizzeria in the Market
Place.
In
2001 Nino’s expanded into the adjoining shop unit: since then the
larger premises have been thriving, Nino’s traditional Italian approach
and attention to detail bringing wave after wave of fresh custom to “
the longest running traditional-style Italian restaurant in Reading”.
